Nicotine pouch strength guide: 9mg ZYN Strong Cool Mint can in front of a row of cans of different strengths

Nicotine pouch strength is the amount of nicotine in each pouch, in mg, printed on the can. On our shelf that runs from 1.5mg (ZYN X Low) to 45mg (Maggie Extreme), and the biggest chunk of the range sits between 9mg and 13.5mg. Below is every nicotine strength we stock, grouped into bands. After that we cover what the labels really mean, how to step up or down without changing your flavour, and the big jumps worth knowing about before you reorder. This strength guide is for adults who already use nicotine.

Quick answer: Ignore names like "Lite" or "X Strong" and compare the mg per pouch printed on the can. Stay close to the strength you already use. If you do change, go up in small steps: same brand and flavour where the next rung is close, another brand's in-between strength where it isn't. Treat anything from 20mg up as only for people already used to strong pouches. Use the chart below, or browse every pouch we stock.

Nicotine pouch strength chart: every mg we stock

Every figure below is mg of nicotine per pouch, as printed on the can.

Extra strong 17–25mg Pablo Gold 17mg (£3.79); 77 Ghost Mini 20mg (£3.99); Garant Extreme Edition Mint 22mg and Garant 25mg (£3.99); Pablo Exclusive 24mg (£3.79); Zeus 25mg (£4.29) Only for people already used to strong pouches
Ultra strong 30mg+ Pablo Exclusive 30mg (£3.79); Havens Red Line 32.5mg (£4.29); Aroma Attention 35mg (£3.99); Iceberg 35mg (£4.55); Cuba Black Line 43mg (£3.79); Maggie Extreme Mr Blue 45mg (£4.55) Very high strength. Not a target to work towards

Look at the gap. We stock nothing between 13.5mg and 17mg, so the step out of "strong" is bigger than most people expect. The next can up from ZYN's 13.5mg is Pablo Gold at 17mg.

These bands are our own grouping, not an industry standard. Nobody agrees on one. nicpouch.co.uk puts medium at 6–9mg, and its strong band (9–13mg) overlaps its extra strong band (10–18mg). nicopouchesusa.com calls 6mg medium and 9–12mg strong. Compare the mg, not the band name.

What about 100mg pouches?

Those aren't nicotine. The 100mg Denssi pouches are caffeine pouches, and the figure on the can is mg of caffeine. Iceberg's 75mg and 150mg pouches are listed as energy pouches, not nicotine pouches, so check the ingredients on the product page before you compare them with anything in the chart. The strongest nicotine pouch we stock is 45mg.

For more on how caffeine pouches are labelled, see our caffeine pouches guide. If you've heard about a "150mg Cuba", our Cuba Black Line guide explains where that myth comes from.

What the mg number on a can actually means

How much nicotine is in a nicotine pouch? Across our range it's anywhere from 1.5mg to 45mg per pouch. Mg per pouch is the number to compare between cans.

Some cans also show mg/g, which is a different thing. Mg/g is concentration: how much nicotine there is in each gram of pouch material. Mg per pouch is content: how much is in one pouch. Multiply the pouch weight by the mg/g figure and you get the mg per pouch. Two cans with the same mg/g can therefore hold different amounts per pouch if the pouches weigh different amounts.

ZYN states its strengths as mg per pouch, shown as a number plus dots on the front of the can (ZYN UK strengths page, seen 18 October 2026). Every product in our catalogue is listed by mg per pouch, so that's the figure to compare.

The label also isn't the same as what reaches you. A 2024 study funded by Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and published in Frontiers in Pharmacology tested pouches labelled 6mg, 20mg and 30mg. In the lab they measured 4.8mg, 16.3mg and 27.1mg. Over 20 minutes of use, the nicotine taken up was 1.8mg, 4.7mg and 14.1mg. The number on the can is a label, not a precise dose, and what you get depends on the product and how long it's in.

Why 'Lite', 'Medium' and dots don't travel between brands

Strength words are each brand's own marketing, and they don't line up with anyone else's. Some real examples from our shelf:

  • Maggie "Lite" is 13.2mg. That's only 0.3mg below ZYN XX-Strong (13.5mg), and above both ZYN Strong (9mg) and ZYN X-Strong (11mg).
  • ZYN X-Strong (11mg) is weaker than standard Killa (13.2mg).
  • 77 "Medium" is 10mg, while ZYN's own "Medium" is 6mg. Same word, two-thirds more nicotine.

For reference, ZYN's official names are X-Low 1.5mg, Low 3mg, Medium 6mg, Strong 9mg, X-Strong 11mg and XX-Strong 13.5mg. Our own product listings don't always use ZYN's names (you'll see '3mg ZYN Medium', '11mg ZYN Medium' and '6mg ZYN Strong'), which is one more reason to go by the mg in the title.

Dots only mean something within one brand, and even then they can be inconsistent. ZYN's UK page describes 11mg as "4 of 4 dots", then lists 13.5mg as 5 dots and 16.5mg as 6. That's no criticism of ZYN. It just shows dots are a rough guide, not a measurement. Our ZYN strengths chart covers the full dot breakdown.

Which brands make strength easiest to read? The ones that print mg per pouch clearly on the can. Compare that number, not the word or the dot count.

Same-brand strength ladders: change the mg, keep the flavour

If you like a flavour but want a different strength, the simplest move is to stay with the same brand and flavour and change only the mg. That way, if it feels different, you know why. Here's where that's possible in our range.

Brand Ladder (mg) Flavour at every rung Price per can
Pablo Silver 10.2 → Gold 17 → Exclusive 30 Blue Raspberry, Blueberry Peach Ice, Kiwi, Pear or Pineapple (the 24mg Exclusive rung only comes in Ice Cold, Red and X Ice Cold) £3.79
ZYN 1.5 → 3 → 6 → 9 → 11, then 13.5 Cool Mint to 11mg, then Menthol Ice at 13.5mg. Spearmint runs 3 → 6 → 11mg £4.19
77 Light 5 → Medium 10 → Ghost Mini 20 Fresh Mint, Ice Mint, Forest Fruits or Raspberry Ice at 5mg and 10mg. Ghost Mini comes only in Mango or Original £3.99
Zeus 4 → 10 → 25 Mint Rage or True North £4.29
Denssi 5.6 → 11.2 All seven: Blueberry Freeze, Brain Freeze, Cold Mint, Mango Freeze, Spearmint, Strawberry Freeze, Watermelon Freeze £3.99
Greatest 4 → 8 → 13.3 Cold Dry (13.3mg is Cold Dry XL). A 10mg rung exists in Arctic Edition or Rage Lemonade if you'll change flavour £3.99
Garant 11 → 22 → 25 Mint at each rung: Ice Cool or Ice Cool Peppermint at 11mg, Extreme Edition Mint at 22mg, Ice Extreme Cool Mint at 25mg £3.99
Snü 9 → 12 Fresh Mint £4.29
ZVOL 6 → 10 Spearmint Breeze £4.29
Camo 6 → 12 Wild Mint at 6mg, Ice Cold Mint at 12mg £3.99
Killa 13.2 only No same-brand rung up or down £3.79
Iceberg 35 only No same-brand rung up or down £4.55

Pablo has the longest fruit ladder. Its Silver Edition sits at 10.2mg in the strong band, and the same Blue Raspberry carries on through Gold and Exclusive. If Silver suits you, there's no reason to climb. Our Pablo flavours guide lists every flavour at every strength.

Two things to watch with ZYN. First, according to ZYN, the 3mg and 6mg strengths are Mini pouches and 9mg and up are Regular, so the pouch size changes as you move up the Cool Mint ladder. Second, ZYN says its X-Low 1.5mg cans hold 10 pouches, so check the count on the can before comparing that £4.19 with other strengths.

Price doesn't rise with strength. Pablo is £3.79 at 10.2mg, 17mg, 24mg and 30mg. ZYN is £4.19 from 1.5mg to 13.5mg, and Cuba is £3.79 at both 10.4mg and 43mg. Choose on what your tolerance suits, never on "more nicotine for the money".

The big jumps, and who 20mg+ pouches are for

Some brands have a huge gap between rungs, with nothing in between. These are the ones on our shelf.

From To Jump
Cuba White Line 10.4mg Cuba Black Line 43mg About 4.1×
Maggie Lite 13.2mg Maggie Extreme 45mg (Mr Blue) About 3.4×
Aroma Essence 13mg Aroma Attention 35mg (same six flavours) About 2.7×
Havens Blue Line 13mg Havens Red Line 32.5mg (Grape Cola) 2.5×
Zeus 10mg Zeus 25mg 2.5×
77 Medium 10mg 77 Ghost Mini 20mg 2×
Garant Prime 11mg Garant Extreme Edition 22mg 2×

Cuba needs the most care. White Line and Black Line share most of the same flavour names, Mango, Cherry and Cola among them, at the same £3.79. It's easy to pick up the wrong can without noticing, so check the mg every time you reorder.

Our advice: don't leap. You don't need to step up at all. If you do want a bit more, try another brand's middle strength first rather than jumping a whole rung within one brand.

Anything from 20mg up is for people already used to strong pouches. It isn't a goal to work towards. In the BfR study mentioned above, the 30mg pouch produced the largest rise in heart rate and the strongest side effects of the three tested.

How to pick a strength from what you already use

This section is for people who already use nicotine. Staying put is a perfectly good choice: if your current strength suits you, there's no reason to change it.

Stepping up

Say you're on 6mg and it feels light. Try around 9–11mg before going any further, and change one thing at a time. Moving from ZYN 6mg Cool Mint to ZYN 9mg Cool Mint keeps the brand and flavour the same, so the only change is the strength (and, as noted above, the pouch moves from Mini to Regular).

Stepping down

If your pouch feels like too much, drop a rung in the same brand. Pablo Gold 17mg to Pablo Silver 10.2mg keeps the flavour, as does ZYN 9mg Cool Mint to the 6mg ZYN Mini Cool Mint. The ladder table above shows where else this works.

If you use other nicotine products

There's no reliable mg conversion between pouches and other nicotine products. Absorption, format and how long you use each one all differ. Even pouches with the same mg differ between brands. A study run by British American Tobacco (so industry-funded) found 10mg Lyft gave higher blood nicotine than 10mg ZYN. The authors put the difference down to pH, moisture, pouch materials, ingredients and size.

If you already use nicotine in another form and want to try a pouch, choose within the lower-regular band and judge by how it feels, not by an online conversion.

Signs a pouch is too strong, and per pouch vs per day

The common signs that a pouch is too strong for you:

  • Hiccups
  • Gum or mouth irritation (reported with all the pouches in the BfR study)
  • Light-headedness or dizziness
  • Nausea

If you get any of these, take the pouch out and drop down a level next time. Don't push through it. Never put two pouches in at once to reach a strength either. If you want something different, pick the right strength instead.

The mg on the can is per pouch, so your daily total depends on how many you use. There's no official daily figure to quote, so follow the manufacturer's guidance on the can. Nicotine is addictive. ZYN's own wording is that its pouches are "not risk free and contains nicotine, which is addictive". Our guide to nicotine pouch side effects covers this in more detail.

Does flavour change how strong a pouch feels?

Not in terms of nicotine. The content is what's printed on the can. Killa Cold Mint and Killa Mango Ice are both 13.2mg, and ZYN Menthol Ice and ZYN Blackcurrant Frost are both 13.5mg.

Featured Product

What cooling and ice flavours do add is a tingle, which some people read as a harder hit. ZYN itself describes lower strengths as giving a "lower tingling sensation" and XX-Strong an "intense cooling sensation". So if a mint feels sharper than a fruit at the same mg, that's the cooling talking, not extra nicotine. You can browse both styles on our Killa brand page.

If you're choosing by flavour, here's the rough lean of each brand:

  • Fruit-led: Pablo, Cuba White Line, Killa Exclusive and much of the 77 range
  • Mint-led: ZYN, Garant and Camo, with Snü offering Fresh Mint alongside fruit
  • Cooling "freeze" flavours: Denssi
  • Something different: cola (Cuba, Killa), coffee (ZYN 6mg and 11mg Coffee) and tea (77 Black Tea and Green Tea at 10mg)

All of them are tobacco-free nicotine pouches.

Pouch formats: mini, regular, XL, dry and moist

Pouch size can change how a strength feels. ZYN describes its Mini as giving "greater discretion and a more subtle nicotine experience". It describes Regular as "slightly larger allowing for a more intense experience that lasts longer" (ZYN UK).

Mini, slim, regular and XL nicotine pouches side by side to compare pouch size and format

Featured Product

Mini doesn't mean mild, though. 77 Ghost Mini is 20mg. Size and mg are separate choices, so read both. Names like "XL" turn up too (Greatest Cold Dry XL is 13.3mg), but as with Mini, the name tells you nothing about strength. Check the number.

Moisture also plays a part. The industry-funded study above lists moisture, pH and pouch materials among the things that affect how nicotine is delivered. In plain terms, two pouches with the same mg can release differently depending on how they're made. "All-white" simply means a white, tobacco-free pouch.

If you want something low-key for work or travel, a Mini format is the one ZYN itself describes as more discreet.

Snus, nicotine pouches and UK law

Plenty of people search for "snus strength", so here's the legal position. As of October 2026, selling traditional tobacco snus has been illegal in the UK since 1992 under the Tobacco for Oral Use (Safety) Regulations 1992. In England and Wales, the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 re-enacts that ban from 29 October 2026 (s.8). SnusBox sells tobacco-free nicotine pouches, not tobacco snus.

As of October 2026: from 29 October 2026 it is an offence to sell a nicotine product, including nicotine pouches, to anyone under 18 in England and Wales (Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026, s.10). For the fuller picture, read is snus legal in the UK?

FAQs

How much nicotine is in a nicotine pouch?

It's printed on the can as mg per pouch. In our range it runs from 1.5mg (ZYN X Low) to 45mg (Maggie Extreme). The biggest share of what we stock sits between 9mg and 13.5mg.

What's the difference between mg per pouch and mg per gram?

Mg per pouch is how much nicotine one pouch contains, while mg/g is the concentration in the pouch material. Pouch weight multiplied by mg/g gives you mg per pouch. When comparing cans, use mg per pouch.

Is a 3mg nicotine pouch a lot?

No. 3mg sits in the light band, and the only thing lower in our range is 1.5mg ZYN X Low. Strength is personal, though, so judge by how it feels to you.

Is 6mg snus strong?

6mg sits at the lower end of the regular band, and most of our range is stronger, from 9mg up. People often call pouches "snus", but what we stock are tobacco-free nicotine pouches (see the law section above).

Is a 10mg nicotine pouch strong?

It sits in our strong band, above ZYN Strong at 9mg and below Killa at 13.2mg. If you're used to 3–6mg it will feel noticeably stronger, so go via 8–9mg first rather than jumping.

How many cigarettes is a 6mg nicotine pouch equal to?

There's no reliable figure, and we don't give one. Absorption differs by format, brand and how long the pouch is in, and even pouches with the same mg deliver differently (Azzopardi et al. 2021). Online conversions are guesswork.

How does nicotine pouch strength compare to a vape?

The numbers can't be compared directly. E-liquid is labelled in mg/ml and pouches in mg per pouch, and the two deliver nicotine differently. If you already use nicotine in other forms, choose within the lower-regular band and adjust by feel.

Is 20mg of nicotine pouches a day a lot?

The mg on the can is per pouch, so your daily total depends on how many you use. There's no official daily figure to quote, so follow the manufacturer's guidance on the can. Remember that nicotine is addictive.

How long does a nicotine pouch take to kick in?

In the 2024 BfR-funded study, the light-headed "head buzz" peaked about five minutes in. In an industry-funded study where pouches stayed in for 60 minutes, blood nicotine kept rising and peaked at a median of 60–65 minutes.

What do the dots on a nicotine pouch can mean?

Dots show relative strength within one brand only: more dots means more mg in that range. They don't line up between brands and can be inconsistent even within one, so always check the mg per pouch.

Are mint nicotine pouches stronger than fruit ones?

Not if the mg is the same: Killa Cold Mint and Mango Ice are both 13.2mg. Cooling flavours add a tingle that can make a pouch feel sharper, but the nicotine content is what's on the can.

What is the strongest nicotine pouch in the UK?

We can only speak for our own shelf. The strongest we stock is 45mg Maggie Extreme Mr Blue, followed by 43mg Cuba Black Line. Both are only for people already used to very strong pouches.

Are there 100mg nicotine pouches?

Not on our shelf. The strongest nicotine pouch we stock is 45mg. The 100mg Denssi pouches are labelled in mg of caffeine, and Iceberg's 75mg and 150mg pouches are listed as energy pouches rather than nicotine pouches (see the 100mg section above).

What should I do if a nicotine pouch is too strong?

Take it out straight away, and don't push through hiccups, nausea or dizziness. Next time, drop a rung in the same brand, for example from Pablo Gold 17mg to Pablo Silver 10.2mg.

Does pouch size change how strong it feels?

It can. ZYN describes its Mini as "more subtle" and its Regular as giving a "more intense experience that lasts longer". Size isn't strength, though: 77 Ghost Mini is still 20mg.

For adult nicotine users only (18+). Contains nicotine, which is an addictive substance.
